How to Keep Clients During the Coronavirus Pandemic

During this global coronavirus pandemic, retaining clients isn’t going to be easy for businesses.  Over 16 million people have lost their jobs in the US in a few weeks.  About $15 trillion has been wiped from the world economy.  During this time, people will naturally become more tight-fisted.  Hence, it’s crucial to give them a reason to trust your business.

Providing exceptional service for your clients is a given.  During the coronavirus pandemic, most people are relying on online services or products that can provide them some type of relief.  It will help them retain some semblance of normalcy during a difficult time. 

So it’s your job to maintain a high level of competency, service, and quality.  It will give your clients the calm they need during these testing times.  It will also keep them coming back to you for their favorite products and services.  This will ensure that your steady streams of revenue are impacted as little as possible. 

During the coronavirus, online business management services are also going to be crucial.  They can help your business adapt to a mostly online client-business interaction. 

Identify the Greatest Challenges for Your Business 

You are bound to face tough challenges during this pandemic.  The coronavirus has brought a situation that the world has not seen since the Spanish Flu.  To deal with this, you will have to identify the challenges that your company is likely to face. 

These challenges can include stock market crashes, investor panic, service breakdown, supply chain problems, etc.  All of these challenges will affect you in some way.  It’s important to list them down and give yourself time to prepare for them.  Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. 

Plan Likely Scenarios 

Once you’ve gotten through the list of likely challenges you will face, it’s essential  to plan out a few scenarios.  Having the most plausible scenarios in front of you will give you time to prepare solutions.  When a certain scenario occurs, you will have ample time to react because you know the right response.

Not only will this save your company a ton of money, but it will also increase your clients’ faith in your business.  They will see how well you’ve adapted to the current situation and continue to use your services.  It will give them a reason to remain calm if they use your services or have invested in your company.  More than likely, this will give your company a boost during the pandemic. 

Use Alternative Solutions 

The coronavirus crisis will likely disrupt your travel arrangements and business meetings.  Hence, you need to look for and adopt alternative solutions.  Most of these are readily available, like holding video conferencing calls in place of meetings. 

With the wealth of online conferencing apps available, including Skype, GoToMeeting, and Zoom, it’ll be easy to do so.  However, you need to rely on these types of apps to converse with your clients and business partners increasingly.  Make sure that you’re reachable all the time so that they don’t feel abandoned at this time. 

You can also send pre-recorded videos and large documents over tools like Screencast O Matic, Dropbox, or Google Drive .  These applications will help keep the communications open between you and your clients. 

Market Your Solutions with the Coronavirus Pandemic in Mind 

After you’ve planned out these likely scenarios, you need to be honest with yourself about your business.  During the coronavirus crisis, many companies will not remain relevant.  People will only use the services and products that are essential to them. Therefore, you need to find the most vital and popular products/services to make available. 

These services should take up the bulk of your orders at this time.  The other scenario is that people start relying on a hitherto underused service or product of yours.  While that is rare, it can happen.  Hence, it would be best if you kept an eye out for the most likely scenario.

It’s not just about keeping clients but saving resources as well.  During this time, you will need to funnel money and workforce into what is working best and cut the rest. 

Implement Relevant Tech Solutions

For the safety of your clients and your employees, you should be adopting a strict work from home policy.  Whether the government mandates a lockdown or not, this is the need of the hour.  During this time, you will need to establish a more online-centric relationship with your clients.  For this purpose, you should have an online business manager to handle that aspect of your business.

These aspects will include establishing clear channels of communication with clients and employees.  This way, you won’t miss out on any crucial, actionable information.  Phone calls and chats aren’t fast enough.  Direct, uninhibited channels of communication need to be set up to tune out home life distractions. 

More than that, online payment channels also need to be set up to keep your business going.  Without these channels, there is no way you can streamline the work that needs to get done.  Clients should also receive the kind of feedback they can work with to adapt to your predicament.  They’re not going to bend over backward for your services or products.  Thus, you need to change to them and provide your services through easy to use methods like a website or an app.  You also need to engage with them using services that they use like Slack, Messenger, iMessage.  The same goes for payment apps like Venmo or PayPal.
